History of the WTA Canadian Open Women's Singles Tournament

The 2025 edition of the Women’s Canadian Open is set to be the 123rd. The first time the women’s singles were held was 1892, with Maude Delano-Osborne being the first woman to win the championship. It began as a clay courts tournament, before transitioning to hard courts in 1979.

It was initially known as the Canadian National Championships, as the Open Era had yet to begin. It wasn’t until 1968 that it became the Canadian Open as we know it now. It was also folded into the WTA 1000 in 2021.
