Oliveira is the former lightweight champion and ranked 4th in the division. His career record now stands at 33-11, and although he’s lost 3 of his last 5 fights, these were to some of the best fighters in the world. His recent losses came against Islam Makhachev, Arman Tsarukyan and Ilia Topuria, but before that, the Brazilian had been on an 11-fight win streak. 70% of his UFC wins have been by submission, and he also has 4 KO/TKO wins.

Mateusz Gamrot

Gamrot stepped in to replace the injured Rafael Fiziev for this Fight Night. The Polish fighter is currently ranked 8th in the division and has a record of 25-3, with 8 wins and 3 losses in the UFC. 2 of those losses were split decisions, and he’s also earned 5 Fight of the Night or Performance of the Night bonuses in the UFC. Gamrot is best known for his excellent grappling ability, which saw him beat Arman Tsarukyan.

Deiveson Figueiredo

Figueiredo was a huge success at flyweight, winning the belt twice before losing it to Brandon Moreno and moving up to bantamweight. He’s currently ranked 6th in the division, with an overall record of 24-5-1 and 13 wins and 5 losses in the UFC. He was known for his power at flyweight, but he has an excellent ground game too. In the UFC, he has 4 wins by KO/TKO and 4 by submission.

Montel Jackson

Jackson has a professional MMA record of 15 wins and 2 losses, with 9 wins in the UFC. He’s currently on a 6-fight win streak through the bantamweight division, which includes 3 first-round stoppages. However, he’s not ranked in the top 15 yet, and this will be his highest-ranked opponent yet. Throughout his career, Jackson has managed to KO or TKO his opponent 53% of the time.

Main Event

Although it’s a shame that Fiziev had to pull out, this should still be an excellent fight. Oliveira is coming off his KO loss to Topuria in June, which showed his defensive issues and was potentially a sign that age is catching up to him. However, he’s still an incredibly dangerous opponent for anyone in the division, particularly on the ground, which is where Gamrot will naturally want to take this fight.

Gamrot is best known for his wrestling ability, which sees him land an average of more than 5 takedowns per fight. Although he’s never lost by submission, it will be interesting to see how he deals with the jiu-jitsu of Oliveira. The UFC odds are currently even between both fighters.

Co-Main Event

Figueiredo initially looked like he might challenge for the bantamweight title after moving up from flyweight. He won his first 3 fights before losing to Petr Yan and Cory Sandhagen. His most recent loss was a knee injury in May, and it will be interesting to see if that causes more issues for him. That injury is likely why he’s a major underdog for this fight, but he has a lot of experience and excellent grappling.

Jackson may not be ranked, but the current MMA odds show that he’s a big favourite to win this one. He’s on a good winning streak and has a reputation for being able to finish fights quickly. His power could be the difference, although Figueirdo has enough quality to make this a hard fight.
