UFC Betting Odds - Latest Fight Night Odds & MMA Sports Betting Markets
One of the purest combat sports in the world, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) evolved from an underground niche sport to the highest form of competitive professional fighting. The sport has taken the world by storm, and MMA betting is now one of the most popular options at Stake Sportsbook, especially during big fight cards.
History of UFC
The sport of mixed martial arts has its roots in ancient sports such as Leitai in China and Pankration in Greece, which used techniques from multiple martial arts, such as boxing and wrestling. Combining martial arts continued to be popular over the centuries that followed, with famous figures such as Bruce Lee helping to popularise them. However, it wasn’t until the emergence of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) that MMA really took off and gained mainstream acceptance.
The UFC was formed in 1993, inspired by Vale Tudo tournaments, and the first-ever event promised ultimate fighting with no rules. To distinguish itself from other combat sports, the fights were held in a specially constructed eight-sided cage, now known as the signature Octagon.
Jiu-jitsu fighter Royce Gracie won the inaugural tournament, submitting 3 opponents in a total of 5 minutes, which led to an explosion of interest in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and the UFC.
The term MMA wasn’t originally used by the UFC, but was adopted by the organisation over time as it continued to professionalise. Early tournaments had featured no rules, but to be licensed by state athletic organisations, the UFC introduced weight classes, banned illegal strikes such as headbutts, and created a unified ruleset. By UFC 14 in 1997, the organisation had become a sport rather than a no-holds-barred contest.
Despite the creation of the unified MMA rules, the UFC still struggled financially. It was purchased for $2 million by the Fertitta brothers, along with their business partner Dana White, who was made president of the organisation. Under the leadership of Dana White, the UFC continued to grow, with shows like The Ultimate Fighter contributing to its mainstream appeal.
Over the years, UFC has featured legendary superstar pro fighters such as Georges St-Pierre, Conor McGregor, Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddell, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Ronda Rousey, Amanda Nunes and many more. Stake is also proud to be partners with the UFC, and in turn, some of these UFC superstar fighters! This includes Israel Adesanya, Alex Pereira, Caio Borralho and Merab Dvalishvili, showing our continued support behind the UFC and MMA as a whole.
UFC Rules & Basics
The UFC features multiple weight divisions, with fighters ranked within their division based on their performances. The unified MMA ruleset allows fighters to use a variety of techniques to finish their opponent by knockout (KO), technical knockout (TKO) or submission. Kicks, knees, elbows and punches can all be used to strike, while grappling techniques such as clinch, takedowns and submission holds can all be used too. Unlike boxing, where a knockdown leads to a standing 8 count, MMA fighters can continue to strike an opponent who has been knocked down. However, kicks and knees to the head of grounded opponents are illegal.
Fights are split into rounds, with standard fights lasting 3 rounds of 5 minutes. Championship or main event fights are usually 5 rounds of 5 minutes.
If both opponents last the full rounds, the 3 judges sitting cageside will determine the result. Fighters are judged by their performance in the fight, with each round scored based on which fighter landed more clean strikes, caused more damage and controlled their opponent.

Israel Adesanya
Former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is one of the best pure strikers that the sport has ever seen. His incredible run through the middleweight division saw him capture the UFC belt in his 6th fight, before going on to defend it 6 times. Although he lost the belt to Alex Pereira, he won it back in the rematch. Adesanya’s professional MMA record stands at 24-5, with 13 wins in the UFC, including 5 by KO/TKO.
Caio Borralho
Another top UFC middleweight, Caio Borralho, has had a fast rise through the rankings since he arrived after finishing his opponent in Dana White’s Contender Series. Currently, his professional MMA record stands at 17-2, with 7 wins and just 1 loss in the UFC. Although he lost his last fight, we still expect Borralho to challenge for the title soon.
Max Holloway
Former featherweight champion Max Holloway is a legend of the sport and has been fighting in the UFC since 2012. He made his debut against Dustin Poirier as a 19-year-old and won the title 4 years later. He defended his featherweight belt 4 times, and although he would go on to lose the belt to Alexander Volkanovski, Holloway still cleared out the division’s contenders before moving up to lightweight, where he beat Justin Gaethje and won his rematch against Poirier.
Alex Pereira
Alex “Poatan” Pereira had an impressive kickboxing career between 2012 and 2021, winning multiple titles in Glory. In 2021, he made his UFC debut and soon challenged Adesanya for the title, which he won by KO in the 5th round. After being beaten in the rematch, Pereira moved up to light heavyweight, winning the belt there and defending the title 3 times. His professional MMA record now stands at 13-3, with 10 wins and 2 losses in the UFC. Most notably, he has an impressive 80% KO/TKO rate in the UFC.
Merab Dvalishvili
Merab Dvalishvili has to go down as one of the best bantamweights in the history of the UFC. The Georgian fighter actually lost his first 2 fights in the UFC before going on a legendary run of 14 wins, including 4 title fights. After winning the bantamweight title in 2024, Merab defended it 3 times in 2025, setting records for the most strikes landed in the division and most takedowns secured in the UFC.
