History of the ATP Cincinnati Open Men's Singles Tournament
The Cincinnati Masters event can be traced all the way back to 1899. At that point, it was named the Cincinnati Open, which it is again today, but it would go on to change names multiple times.
Initially, it was played on clay courts, which remained the case until the switch to the current surface in 1979. That came after it was very nearly removed from the circuit altogether in 1974. This was due to uncertainty about its host venue.
Since moving to the Lindner Family Tennis Center in 1979, it has been a major part of the calendar, forming part of the Grand Prix Tennis Tour and the Grand Prix Super Series, before becoming the Cincinnati Masters 1000 event.
Who is Playing in the ATP Cincinnati Open Men's Singles 2025?
The biggest and brightest in tennis will be playing at 2025’s edition, and we’ve handpicked a few names to look out for and why:
Janik Sinner
Here we have a young Italian who may end up becoming one of the greatest to ever play the sport. He has won two of the three Slams played already this year, and will want to add the US Open to that. Retaining the Cincinnati Open would be a good warm-up for that.
Carlos Alcaraz
Alcaraz is the other young European battling it out with Sinner to be the best. He’s already beaten his Italian counterpart in the French Open final this year, but fell to him at Wimbledon, and will want a Cincinnati Open win to get back on track.
Novak Djokovic
The ever-present Serb will go down in history as possibly the best ever. He’s the holder of the most Big Titles with 72, and a fourth Cincinnati Open would truly cement it, even if he is some way off Roger Federer’s seven wins here.
How to Bet on the Cincinnati Open & Tennis Bet Types
Whether you’re betting on Wimbledon, the Canadian Open, or the Cincinnati Open, there are a few tennis bet types that you should keep in mind when betting on Stake:
Game Handicap: Handicap bets are essentially you giving someone a head start against your bet. In a game handicap bet, you’re betting that your player can overcome a deficit to win a set. For example, a -1.5 handicap on Alexander Zverev would mean he has to win the set by two clear games, i.e. 6-4.
Correct Score: This is a similar bet to one you would find when betting on soccer or other similar sports. You’re predicting what the final outcome will be, including the exact score. So, you would choose the exact sets won by each player.
1st Set Total Games: For this form of set betting, you’re choosing how many games you think it will take for a winner to be decided in the first set. Will it be a walkover? Or will it be a hard-fought slog of a set?
