Major Fighters in UFC Fight Night: Sandhagen vs. Figueiredo
Cory Sandhagen
Sandhagen is widely considered one of the best strikers in the bantamweight division right now. He lost his last fight against Umar Nurmagomedov last summer, but before that, he was on a 3-fight win streak. His pro MMA record is now 17-5, with his only losses in the UFC coming to top opposition such as Aljamain Sterling, TJ Dillashaw, Petr Yan, and Umar. 41% of Sandhagen’s career wins have come by way of KO or TKO.
Deiveson Figueiredo
Figueiredo was once one of the most feared fighters in the flyweight division, but he moved up after losing the belt a second time to Brandon Moreno. He went on a 3-fight win streak in the bantamweight division before losing a tough battle against Petr Yan in his last fight. Figueiredo now has an overall record of 24-4-1. In the UFC, he’s 13-4 with 1 draw, while 38% of his wins have been KO or TKO, and another 38% have been by submission.
Reinier de Ridder
Former One Championship champion de Ridder has had 2 fights in the UFC, with 2 wins by submission. The grappling expert is clearly very talented, and he impressed in his wins against Meerschaert and Kevin Holland. His professional MMA record is 19-2 coming into this fight, and an impressive 74% of his wins have been by submission. He’s now ranked 13th in the UFC middleweight division and will look to climb further with a win over a hot prospect.
Bo Nickal
As a freestyle wrestling world champion and 3-time NCAA Division I national champion, Bo Nickal had an impressive resume coming into the UFC. He submitted his 2 opponents in the Contender Series and has since finished all but 1 of his opponents in the UFC. His last fight was a unanimous decision win over Paul Craig, taking his overall record to 7-0. A win in this fight would likely get him a top 15 ranking.
Fight Card & Betting Odds
Main Event
Cory Sandhagen will hope to return to winning ways after his most recent fight ended in a loss to Umar Nurmagomedov. The number 4 ranked bantamweight formerly challenged for the interim title, but will have his work cut out to get back into the title picture. He’s a big favourite in this matchup, with his striking ability and reach giving him an advantage.
Figueiredo has been impressive since his move up to bantamweight, though he met his match in his last fight against Petr Yan. Both fighters have lost to Yan, and this will be an interesting battle. Figueiredo is the underdog, though his toughness and grappling may upset the MMA betting odds.
Co-Main Event
This is a really interesting matchup between 2 high-level grapplers. Reinier de Ridder has more experience, with 21 professional career fights to Nickal’s 7. However, he’s the MMA odds underdog here. Even after winning his first 2 UFC fights, most experts believe this will be a tough fight for the former One Fighting Championship champion as his striking isn’t at a high level.
Some fans have complained about the slow and steady approach that Bo Nickal has been on since entering the UFC in 2023. However, so far he’s beaten all of his opponents and has finished all but 1 of them. Most expect him to win this one due to his excellent wrestling background, but it could come down to who has the better striking.
