Patrice Evra: August 2025 Football Insights & Predictions
What are your predictions for Man Utd’s season?
With United, you never know. One day they make you dream, the next they break your heart. But if they get that old fighting spirit back, the one where players bleed for the shirt, they can shock people. It’s about consistency, not Instagram moments.
If Man Utd lose more than half of their first 10 games, is Ruben Amorim under risk of being sacked?
Football is a jungle. When results don’t come, the manager is always the first to go. But if you keep changing the chef, the soup will never taste right. Give him time, but at United, time is expensive.
Was there a particular signing you wished Man Utd made this summer? Could they have tempted Alexander Isak?
I’d have loved to see Isak, he’s a killer. Those guys score even when they have a bad game. That’s how you win titles.
Man Utd have been linked to Gianluigi Donnarumma, would he be an upgrade on Andre Onana?
Donnarumma is top class, but upgrading isn’t just about names. Onana’s qualities fit United, the problem is the whole defence, not just him.
Would half of these players for Man Utd still be at the club if Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge?
No chance. Sir Alex was ruthless, if you didn’t perform, you were out. That’s why we won everything.
It looks like Man Utd have beaten Newcastle to signing Sesko, will he be a success or another Zirkzee, Hojlund etc?
Sesko’s got hunger and the physique to make it. But at United, talent is step one, the shirt is heavy.
Does Sesko’s possible arrival put doubts over Hojlund’s future?
Competition is healthy. If a new signing scares you, you’re in the wrong job. Use it to push yourself.
Are you confident Bryan Mbeumo and Cunha are good enough to take Man Utd back to European football?
They’re good players, but United needs more than good, they need warriors who hate losing. That’s the difference between mid-table and Champions League.
United are close to agreeing a deal for Sesko. He had been linked heavily to Arsenal before they opted to sign Gyokeres. Who will be a better signing?
Both are exciting, but Sesko has that raw power United fans love. If he adapts quick, Old Trafford will sing his name.
You’ve compared watching Arsenal to watching Netflix before, can we expect another “Netflix season” for Arsenal? Do you see them winning any silverware this season?
They’re still my Netflix team, drama, action, romance, even horror. But I want a happy ending, not another beautiful loss.
Who will have a more successful season, Arsenal or Man United?
My heart says United, my brain says wait and see. Potential means nothing if you don’t turn it into points.
Is Mikel Arteta under pressure right now?
Pressure is part of the job. Arsenal fans love the football, but in the end, trophies are what count.
Could you give us your combined Arsenal, Man United XI?
Nah, I’m not doing that. You give me one game to win tomorrow and I’ll pick my team, but mixing Arsenal and United? That’s like mixing red wine and champagne, it’s going to end badly. Plus, half of you will cry no matter who I choose, so I’ll save myself the drama.
Are you shocked by the amount of money Liverpool have spent this season?
Not shocked. Money talks, but sometimes it talks too much. You can’t just buy trophies.
Do you think Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitiké will all be successes?
They’ve got talent, but the Premier League is another planet. If they adapt mentally, they can shine.
Man City have signed Rayan Cherki, how good can he be? Does he have the potential to replace Kevin De Bruyne?
Cherki is magic with the ball. Replace KDB? That’s like replacing your mum’s cooking, almost impossible, but he can make his own recipe.
Is Pep Guardiola’s position as manager in trouble if Man City go trophyless again this season?
Pep in trouble? No chance. But trust me, Pep hates losing more than anyone, he’ll come back swinging.
Could Chelsea contend for the Premier League, or was the Club World Cup an anomaly?
Chelsea are like that friend who disappears then shows up looking sharp. If they stay consistent, yes, they can fight for it.
People have labelled Cole Palmer as one of the best players in the world, do you agree?
Cole’s fearless and creative. Best in the world? Not yet, but he’s knocking on the door.
What’s your opinion on Cristiano Ronaldo’s Saudi Arabian career? Could he make a return to European football?
Cristiano is a machine. This is just a new chapter, not the end. Never say never about Europe.
Would you like to see Ronaldo head to the MLS to play against Lionel Messi?
Of course! Two legends, one last dance, everyone would watch.
Would a World Cup final between Messi and Ronaldo be the ultimate finale to their legendary rivalry?
That would be like the last Marvel movie. Everyone would stop to watch.
Kylian Mbappe went trophyless at Real Madrid last season, is there an issue with the balance of the Real Madrid team? Does Vinicius Jr need to leave for Mbappe and the team to improve?
Mbappé and Vini together? It’s like putting Ferrari and Lamborghini in the same garage and expecting harmony. Both brilliant, but hard to make it work.
Do you think Ousmane Dembele will win the Ballon d’Or?
Dembele deserves it, no doubt. With the season he’s had at PSG, he’s been unstoppable, he makes defenders look dizzy. If that magic keeps, the Ballon d’Or is waiting for him.
Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on loan from Man United, should Amorim have kept him or was this the right move?
Sometimes a change of air brings out your best. If he comes back sharper, it’s the right call.
Pogba has joined Monaco, is that the right move or could he have joined a bigger club?
Paul is like my little brother, and sometimes your little brother needs to go home to feel the love again. People forget what he’s been through with injuries and all the noise around his name. Monaco is perfect for him right now, no circus, just football. When Paul is happy, he’s dangerous.
Could Pogba still do a job in the Premier League?
Don’t even ask me that, of course he can. A fit Pogba is like a Rolls Royce with a full tank. You don’t lose that vision, that control, that swagger. The Premier League hasn’t seen the last of Paul if his body lets him play.
Jonathan David has signed for Juventus, he scored a lot of goals for Lille and had been heavily linked with a move to Man United, have United missed out on signing a proven goalscorer?
Jonathan David is pure goals. United need that, yes, they missed out.
