History of the VCT Champions Tournament
Valorant was released on PC in June 2020, with Riot announcing the first Valorant Champions Tour in November of that year. This tour was divided into 3 tiers: Challengers, Masters and Champions. The Valorant Challengers tier was open to all teams and divided into geographical regions, while the best teams would move to Masters and the top 16 teams from the Masters would move to Champions.
In 2023, Riot Games launched a new format for the professional Valorant scene. The season was split into 3 international regions (Americas, EMEA and Pacific) with each region having its own international league. However, Riot has since added a 4th region for China. Top teams from these leagues qualify for the VCT Masters and Champions tiers.

Format and Schedule of VCT Champions 2025
4 teams from each of the 4 international regions qualify for the VCT Champions 2025 tournament, meaning 16 teams will take part. The total prize pool is worth $2.25 million, with the winning team securing a $1 million prize. Matches are played on the following maps:

The standard plant/defuse gametype is used in professional Valorant, with an attacking team and defending team that swap each round. Each team has 5 players, and they compete to be the first to win 13 rounds.
The VCT Champions is split into 2 main stages:
Group Stage - 12-22 September
Teams each play a best-of-three series against each opponent in their group. A double-elimination format is used, and the top 2 teams from each group progress to the next stage.
Playoffs - 25 September to 5 October
Teams play best-of-three matches for all games, except for the lower bracket final and the Grand Final, which are best-of-five.
