The UFC returns to Yas Island in the United Arab Emirates for UFC 308. The upcoming fights will be held at the Etihad Arena on Sunday October 26. The main event will get under at 7 am NZST.

Ilia Topuria
Ilia Topuria rose to ascendancy in the featherweight division in a similar way to his idol, Conor McGregor. His hard-hitting style and excellent grappling have seen him defeat every opponent he’s faced so far. His current 15-0 record includes wins over Josh Emmet, Bryce Mitchell and Alexander Volkanovski. Topuria’s most recent win was his most impressive, winning the title with a second-round knockout. He has an extremely high finish rate, with just 2 decisions in 15 fights.
Max Holloway
Holloway was dethroned by Alexander Volkanovski in 2019, going on to lose 2 subsequent title fights against the Australian. However, he’s remained one of the top fighters in the sport, setting the record for the most significant strikes landed in a single fight and the most significant strikes landed overall. He recently took on Justin Gaethje for the BMF belt, dominating the lightweight contender for five rounds before winning with an emphatic knockout in the last few seconds.
Robert Whittaker
Whittaker may have lost twice to Israel Adesanya and most recently to the current champion Dricus Du Plessis but he remains one of the top fighters in middleweight rankings. His wins over Costa, Cannonier, Vettori and most recently Aliskerov show he’s on top of his game. His last fight was an impressive first round KO, extending his professional record to 26-7.
Khamzat Chimaev
Chimaev burst into the UFC in 2020, taking 3 fights within a few months and winning all of them with impressive stoppages. Since then, he’s retained his unbeaten professional record with wins over Gilbert Burns, Kevin Holland and Kamaru Usman. However, he’s suffered with health problems that have meant long periods of inactivity and cancelled fights.

This featherweight title fight is one of the most eagerly anticipated fights of the year. Ilia Topuria has looked mostly unbeatable so far in his rise through the rankings, and he took the belt in dramatic fashion from Volkanovski. He has excellent boxing, with fast hands and great head movement, while also showing strength in grappling.
Holloway struggled to work out Alexander Volkanovski, but he’s remained one of the best fighters in the UFC and recently cemented his legacy with a crazy KO victory over Justin Gaethje. According to the latest MMA odds, he’s the betting underdog in this fight, but it’s hard to count him out.

Co-Main Event
Robert Whittaker vs Khamzat Chimaev
This fight had originally been booked to take place in June, but Khamzat pulled out due to health issues. Whittaker took on Aliskerov as a short-notice replacement, knocking him out in the first round. He’ll hope Chimaev can stay healthy this time around. Whittaker has only lost to the best in the division but is still an underdog for this one.
Chimaev’s career has threatened to fizzle out after an explosive start, but he’ll have a chance to prove himself in this fight. This will be his first real test at middleweight, but despite that, he’s the betting favourite based on the current UFC odds.
