Introduction to Counter-Strike 2 ESL Pro League Betting

The ESL Pro League is the world’s premier professional Counter-Strike league and one of the most important professional leagues across all major Esports. It features top teams from around the world, all competing for a share of the $1 million prize pool.

The ESL Pro League consists of 3 major stages, with teams entering either through open qualifiers or by invitation.

When is ESL Pro League Season 22?

The ESL Pro League Season 22 takes place from September 27 to October 12. It’s an offline tournament, with matches held at the ESL Studio in Stockholm, Sweden.

History of the ESL Pro League Tournament

The Electronic Sports League organisation created the European ESL back in November 2014, but in 2015, it agreed to a joint venture with the North American-based E-Sports Entertainment Association League to create a global Counter-Strike league.

The very first season of the ESL Pro League offered $500,000 in prize money for the finals and was won by Fnatic. Over time, the format changed to introduce more teams to the final stage, and the prize pool was increased to $1 million.

Originally, the ESL was composed of four regional leagues, with teams competing against opponents from the same geographical region. The top four teams from each continent would then progress to the finals and receive an automatic invitation to the next season. However, the ESL Pro League was unified into a single league in 2021, starting with Season 13.

Since the inaugural season, the ESL Pro League has been won by 14 teams. The teams with the most titles are Fnatic, MOUZ and Astralis, which have all won 3 times.

Stage 1 - 27 September - 1 October

16 teams compete in a Swiss system, with 5 rounds. The 1st round features matchups based on seeding, while the 2nd round sees teams drawn against opponents they haven’t already faced, with winners of the 1st round playing losers of the 1st round.

For the 3rd round, teams are drawn against new opponents. Teams that have lost the first 2 rounds will be eliminated if they lose again, while teams that won the first 2 rounds will automatically progress with a win.

The 4th round sees teams drawn against opponents they haven’t already met. Teams that have 2 wins will be matched against teams with 2 losses. The losers are eliminated while the winners progress to the next stage.

The fifth round follows the same format, with losers eliminated and winners progressing/ All matches during this stage are played to the best of 3 games.

Stage 2 - 3-7 October

8 teams from Stage 1 join the 8 teams that received an invitation to Stage 2. Once again, the teams compete in a Swiss system, with 5 rounds to eliminate teams and allow 8 teams to progress to the next stage. Matches are also played to the best of 3 games.

Playoffs - 9-12 October

The 8 best teams from Stage 2 will progress to the playoffs, which use a single-elimination bracket format. This means winning teams progress to the next stage, while the losing team is eliminated.
