What is Dota 2's BLAST Slam Series?
The BLAST Slam tournament is organised by BLAST, a Danish Esports organisation that is best known for its Counter-Strike events. However, in 2024, BLAST launched the BLAST Slam tournament series for professional Dota 2. The first of these tournaments took place in November/December of that year. Since then, there have been 4 BLAST Slam events. From BLAST Slam 4, 12 teams compete for a $1 million prize pool.
BLAST Slam 4 Recap
BLAST IV began on October 14, 2025, and the Grand Final will decide the champions on November 9.
Format & Structure of BLAST Slam 5
Group Stage
All 12 teams enter the group stage and play every other opponent. All matches are decided by a single game, and the top 2 teams automatically progress to the semifinals of the playoffs. The 6 teams from 3rd-8th enter the play-in stage, while the remaining 4 teams all take part in the last chance playoffs.
Last Chance Playoffs
In this stage, the teams that finished 9th-12th in the Group Stage play for a chance to make the play-in. The 9th-placed team plays the 12th, and the 10th plays the 11th, with each match played to the best of 3 games. The winners progress while the losing teams are eliminated.
Play-In
A total of 8 teams from the previous 2 stages now compete for their place in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Each team plays one match in a best-of-3 series.
December 5-7 - Playoffs
The top 6 teams from the tournament so far then compete in a single-elimination bracket. Matches are played to the best of 3 games, but the Grand Final is a best-of-5 series.

Meta Shifts, Patch Notes, & Favorite Picks
To be successful, Dota 2 teams need to adapt to their opponents’ strategies. Being too predictable can be costly, so the current professional Dota 2 meta prioritizes versatility. Heroes who are more flexible in the roles they can fill are usually the most popular.
At BLAST Slam 4, the following heroes are among the top picks:
Hoodwink - Hoodwink is a highly mobile hero that can be utilized in multiple roles across the map. She’s excellent at harassing opponents from distance and has powerful disables. In addition, her item builds are flexible and her damage scales well into the late game.
Abaddon - Another hero that can be played in multiple roles, Abaddon can be played in offlane or support. In addition, he has high survivability thanks to his shield ability and heals.
Snapfire - Snapfire starts the game with strong stats and offers excellent lane control. What’s more, she’s incredibly versatile while also being a strong team fighter.
Jakiro - Jakiro has some excellent AoE damage and slow abilities and has great lane control, especially in the early game. However, his damage scales well, and he can be used to support multiple heroes.
