Aljamain Sterling vs Sean O’Malley

Striker vs Grappler matchups are what make MMA a sport full of excitement and we’ve got a similar bout of the highest order.

Aljamain "Funk Master" Sterling has had a controversial run to the belt but has proven his dominance through three title defenses.

He is in good form coming off a 9-fight win streak having toppled some of the best fighters in the UFC like Henry Cejudo, T.J. Dillashaw, and Cory Sandhagen.

Sterling's game plan involves overwhelming his opponents with a combination of strikes and takedown attempts to eventually take their back.

Sterling averages 2.02 Takedowns per 15 minutes and has a 59% Significant Strike Defence which will be his keys to victory in this matchup.

“Sugar” Sean O’Malley has been on a rapid rise to the top at the back of 9 UFC wins and 7 performance accolades in 5 years.

He is coming off a fight-of-the-night victory against former champion Petr Yan while having knocked out contenders like Thomas Almeida and Raulian Paiva.

O'Malley is a sniper, and we think his 61% striking accuracy which is the highest among current top 5 Bantamweights will be his clearest pathway to becoming an Undisputed Champion.

This fight provides a fun display of styles and both fighters have clear pathways to victory so it will be interesting to see who can execute the game plan.

Best Bets

First up is a fun Bantamweight matchup between Marlon Vera and Pedro Munhoz.

We've got two tough warriors who have never been finished and will likely put on a three-rounder.

Vera has been out-struck in his last four outings regardless of win or loss.

Considering this fight is three rounds and Munhoz has a great chin, we'll pick him to pull off the upset at some nice odds.

Next up is our co-main event between Weili Zhang and Amanda Lemos.

Lemos provides a legitimate danger but nothing Weili hasn't already seen.

Weili has earned 19 out of 23 wins via finish and given the explosive style of Lemos, we're predicting the champion to defend her throne via finish in the later rounds.

Our final pick comes on our main event between Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley.

We think Aljamain Sterling has multiple pathways to win here given his championship experience, superior wrestling, and submission skills.

Sean O'Malley is live for an early knockout, but he has never fought in a main event setting and Sterling has been thriving in this setup.

We'll pick Aljamain Sterling to avoid the early shots, get takedowns consistently and lock in another title defence via Submission or a dominant decision.
