Elina Avanesyan is another youngster playing in the third round of a slam, a point that is truly remarkable for her given her recent results on the main WTA Tour.

Avanesyan is at home on the clay, and she plays with a ton of margin for error when her game gets going.

She may not have the biggest of weapons, but she is able to move her opponents around and finish points off with huge groundstrokes when need be.

Her serve is going to be something to watch for here, and if it becomes a second serve contest, she might be out in a hurry.

Elise Mertens is looking for good back on the clay surface, and she will need to overcome another tough hurdle in Jessica Pegula this time around.

Leading the h2h over Pegula with two wins to none, Mertens truly looks to have an opportunity to make the second week of the RG.

There is no telling which version of Elise will show up, but if she is able to land her strokes, it should be a competitive match to say the least.

Jessica Pegula will look to capitalize on a great draw by winning her third match in a row at the French, this time against someone she has never beaten before.

Pegula will need to impose her will on the game in order to win this one, because Mertens can provide some counter-attacking difficulties that have already haunted her in the past.
