IEM Cologne 2023 Betting Odds – CS:GO Intel Extreme Masters Betting Tips & Strategies

Dubbed the “Cathedral of Counter-Strike”, the Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Cologne 2023 is one of the most eagerly anticipated Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) Esports events in the season schedule.

With 24 of the world’s best professional CS:GO teams doing battle for prize money worth $1 million, it’s easy to see why IEM Cologne 2023 is such an eagerly anticipated event.

IEM Cologne 2023 is one of five Intel Grand Slam events throughout the season, with IEM Rio and IEM Dallas staged earlier this year. IEM Cologne’s prize pool is four times that of IEM Rio and IEM Dallas, heightening the drama and anticipation.

When is the IEM Cologne 2023?

IEM Cologne 2023 is scheduled to run from July 26, 2023, through to August 6, 2023. It’s staged in the Lanxess Arena, which boasts an 18,500 capacity and is the biggest ice hockey arena outside North America.

With thousands of CS:GO enthusiasts converging on this corner of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, read on to see what all the fuss is about.

History of the IEM Cologne

It wasn’t until Season XVI of the Intel Extreme Masters that an IEM event would be hosted in Cologne. The inaugural IEM Cologne event was staged in the city’s Hyatt Regency resort in July 2021. This event has carried a $1 million prize pool from the outset. The first winners were Ukrainian CS:GO team Natus Vincere, who pipped G2 Esports in a tense Grand Final.

Following the success of IEM Cologne 2021, the event remained on the schedule for IEM Season XVII. This time, it was held at the Lanxess Arena. Reigning champions Natus Vincere came within a whisker of making it back-to-back titles, losing in the Grand Final to FaZe Clan.

Who is Competing in IEM Cologne 2023?

The likes of FaZe Clan, Natus Vincere, Team Vitality, Grayhound Gaming, FURIA Esports, G2 Esports and Heroic are all expected to be vying for the highly coveted IEM Cologne 2023 trophy this time around.

In total, 24 CS:GO teams are competing in IEM Cologne 2023.

Format and Schedule of IEM Cologne

There are two stages of IEM Cologne:

  • Group Play-In Stage It all begins with a double-elimination bracket, followed by two eight-team groups. Each team plays one another in a best-of-three map format. The top three teams in each group move on to the playoffs.

  • Playoffs Group winners move directly to the playoff semi-finals, with runners-up, the high-seeded teams in the quarter-finals. The playoffs are a single-elimination bracket, with the quarters and semis played in a best-of-three map format and the Grand Final a best-of-five map encounter to win the tournament outright.

All matches consist of a 5x5 gaming setup, with each team fielding five players per map.

How to Bet on the IEM Cologne & CS:GO Bet Types

At Stake.com, our online sportsbook is committed to offering the most comprehensive Esports betting opportunities, with a string of CS:GO betting markets covering all aspects of the Grand Slam IEM events, including IEM Cologne 2023:

Match Winner (Two-Way)

As there are only two outcomes to an elimination CS:GO match, simply bet on whichever team you think will win in a best-of-three or best-of-five map format. This is like a basic moneyline market.

Wins at Least One Map

If you believe a pre-match underdog has a chance of at least giving the favourite a fair fight, you could bet on the underdog to win at least one map in either a best-of-three or best-of-five map format.

Map 1 Winner

Some CS:GO teams are renowned for being fast out of the blocks. In which case, it may be prudent to back them to win the first map of the match. This is one of the most popular prop bets in Counter-Strike betting circles, along with handicap and Asian totals markets.
