Gabriel Bortoleto, the newest rising star of Brazilian motorsport and driver for the Stake F1 Team, shared his expectations, routines, and feelings with us in an exclusive interview ahead of his first-ever home race in the elite world of Formula 1. The partnership between Stake and the Sauber team has been key in bringing fresh talent to the F1 grid, and Gabriel perfectly embodies the best of this collaboration: youth, skill, and a whole lot of determination.

This is your first time racing at the Brazilian GP in front of the home crowd. What are your expectations for such a special event?

Growing up in São Paulo, I always dreamed of racing at Interlagos, and to finally do it as a Formula One driver almost feels unreal. All the work my family and I put in over the years has led to this moment, so it’s definitely very special. But at the same time, my focus stays the same – it’s about performing well, maximising every session, and giving everything I can for a strong result in front of my people.

How are you feeling in your F1 rookie year?

It’s been an incredible learning experience. Every race brings something new – new challenges, new lessons, but I feel I’ve been progressing well, and I am thankful for the amazing support the team has provided me from day one. We’ve had some encouraging results lately, and that motivates me even more to keep improving and pushing forward.

Brazil spent six seasons without a driver in F1, and now you're our biggest hope. How do you handle the pressure and expectations?

It’s definitely a big honour to represent Brazil again in Formula One. I know the fans are passionate and have high expectations, and I try to turn that into motivation rather than pressure. I focus on doing my job, working hard with the team, and making sure we give it our all on track.

Many drivers have a trademark style on the track. What's yours?

I’d say I try to make the most of every opportunity. Whether it’s in qualifying or during the race, I always try to be alert and ready to take advantage when an opportunity comes up. I focus on being consistent, clean, and smart with my moves, pushing hard when it’s needed, and always keeping the bigger picture in mind.

Do you have any superstitions before a race?

There’s one thing I always do, which is jumping in the car with my right foot first, but not much other than that: I have a routine that helps me get in the right mindset, but I wouldn’t call it superstition. It’s more about staying calm and focused.

Outside the track, what are your hobbies?

I enjoy spending time with family and friends whenever I can, relaxing and unwinding after a race weekend. I think it’s important to disconnect a bit, recharge, and keep a good balance between racing and life off the track. I’m into sim racing, I enjoy that a lot, and it’s also a good chance to train and prepare ahead of every race.
